The holidays are upon us, or vienen las Navidades.  Christmas, or la Navidad, is done to the nines in the Spanish speaking world.  All twenty Spanish speaking countries have their own traditions.  My border-childhood brings back  brown paper- bag lumninarios, or luminaries, and garish Feliz Navidad blaring from the Buick radio.

All students respond so excitedly to anything Santa Claus, or Papá Noel in Spanish.  Even using the traditional Christmas vocabulary in Spanish is effective and fun for learners.
